It`s a matter of control: Liebherr 110 ton mobile crane with new LICCON3 control system

  • LTM 1090-4.3: 110 US ton (90 tonne) crane converted to LICCON3
  • Higher load capacity on the long telescopic boom
  • Economically mobile worldwide with variable axle loads
  • Driver assistance systems and RemoteDrive preparation
  • Liebherr is successively converting existing crane types to the new control system and new design

Liebherr presents another crane type with the new LICCON3 control system: The LTM 1090-4.2 becomes the LTM 1090-4.3. The 4-axle 110 US ton (90-tonne) crane is now also characterized by the new trend-setting crane design. Driver assistance systems ensure a high level of driving safety on the roads. Another highlight: The lifting capacity on the long telescopic boom has been further increased. Liebherr is presenting the new crane at Conexpo in Las Vegas.

The Liebherr family of mobile cranes with the new crane design and the new LICCON3 control generation is growing. Not only will newly developed crane types be equipped with the new control system, but Liebherr is also successively converting existing crane models. To indicate these changes, the last digit of the type designation is incremented by one. For example, the LTM 1090-4.2 is currently being upgraded to the LTM 1090-4.3.

LICCON3 crane control system

With the third generation of the LICCON control system (Liebherr Computed Control), Liebherr is taking proven operating concepts to a new technological level - completely new software and programming language, faster data bus, significantly more memory, and higher computer performance. The changeover remains child's play for crane operators: The familiar operating concept ensures a high recognition value, so that the switch to the new control unit is seamless.

Proven hardware components, such as the mobile operating and display unit BTT, have been adopted. The touchscreen function on the new large display in the superstructure cab means that it is now even easier and more comfortable to control. The way in which the information is shown has also been revised and simplified. In addition, LICCON3 cranes are prepared for telemetry and fleet management as standard. In the future, crane contractors will be able to view and evaluate all the relevant data using the MyLiebherr customer portal.

New driver's cab and crane cab

As a result of the high synergy effects involved, Liebherr is launching the new driver's cabin at the same time as the LICCON3 control system. The modern design is characterized by high-quality materials and timeless design language and brings significant improvements for the crane operator. These include the new multifunction steering wheel, side roller blind on the driver’s door, improved instruments and modules as well as new displays. Additional convenience is offered by options such as a central locking system with remote key and the "Coming and Leaving Home" function.

A completely new, modern automatic heating and air-conditioning system in both the driver's cab and the crane operator's cab ensures a high level of comfort. A sun sensor detects strong sunshine and automatically adjusts the heating settings. The lighting packages for the crane cab, the superstructure, the rear of the vehicle, the front headlights, and the telescopic boom as well as the lattice fly jib have been optimized and can be operated with LEDs. The benefits of LED technology include a longer service life and superior lighting performance.

LTM 1090-4.3: All-Rounder – Ready for anything

Back at Conexpo in 2017, Liebherr presented the LTM 1090-4.2, an economical and flexible

all-rounder with four axles. Its slogan: All-Rounder - Ready for anything. The new mobile crane combined mobility, performance and economy at a higher level. Exactly nine years later, Liebherr is presenting its successor, the LTM 1090-4.3, which continues the proven crane concept of high mobility worldwide: The Liebherr 110 US ton (90-tonne) can be driven with many different axle loads on roads and construction sites - 22,050 lb, 26,450 lb and 35,275 lb (10 tonnes, 12 tonnes and 16 tonnes) axle load. Switching between the individual driving modes is quick and easy using the standard quick-change ballast system.

Carrying up to 19,400 lb (8.8 tonnes) of counterweight with an axle load of 26,450 lb (12 tonnes) is an outstanding value in the 4-axle class. It means that crane operators can complete the vast majority of crane jobs at low cost without having to transport additional ballast.

Like its predecessor, the LTM 1090-4.3 has a 197 ft (60 meter) telescopic boom, but its performance has been further increased, particularly when extended and in a steep position. This is a great advantage for the assembly of tower cranes, one of its main applications.

The new crane inherits proven Liebherr innovations from its predecessor: Thanks to ECOdrive and ECOmode, the crane also benefits from lower fuel consumption and noise emissions. The VarioBallast® adjustable ballast radius and VarioBase® variable support base, which comes as standard on the new crane, ensure increased performance, greater safety and great flexibility in use. The innovative DynamicPerform clutch module of the modular ZF TraXon transmission enables virtually wear-free starting and maneuvering without overheating, as it transmits the engine power via an oil-cooled plate pack.

Innovations for greater customer value

In addition to the new crane control system and the new design, the LTM 1090-4.3 has other technical features that increase efficiency, comfort and safety. Road safety benefits from new intelligent assistance systems: The Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) and the Moving Off Information System (MOIS) support the driver and increase protection for road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.

The LTM 1090-4.3 is also prepared for the use of RemoteDrive as standard. A radio remote control with which the crane can be moved from the outside - an enormous advantage on confined construction sites. For even more comfort and reliability, new options are available that have already been tried and tested on other models. This includes a central lubrication system for the undercarriage and a digital tire pressure indicator, which ensure optimum maintenance and availability of the crane.
